This was a somewhat unusual situation. The customer was in need of a single sign but wanted to match existing signs. The problem was that the existing signs appeared to be large Cast Bronze Plaques. The solution chosen was to make the main panel out of 3/4"-thick Solid PVC. The letters and Logo were cut from 1/4" Acrylic and then inlaid into the panel 1/8"-deep. This gave the same appearance as the plaque which had the copy raised 1/8". It also solved the problem of how to securely attach such small and thin pieces. The Lion Logo was also 3-D contoured to look like the original. To achieve the frame lines at the sides and bottom, we attached 1/4" X 1" Aluminum Flat Bar which had been trimmed down to 7/8" wide to end up 1/8" proud of the surface like the letters. The top frame was also cut from 3/4"-thick Solid PVC and given an Ogee Profile similar to the original. The letters, Logo and Frames were all painted Matthews Tuscan Gold. The back panel was painted to match using Matthews Paint with a Heavy Suede Texture to approximate the texture of the bronze plaque. Finally, everything was finished off with Matthews Satin Clear. Whew! A lot of work for a relatively small sign!
